June 27 and 28, 2026: I attended the ‘Allthing’ (put on by Wyrdlands Caravan) in Union, CONNECTICUT.
Traditionally an Allthing was an assembly for political, social, and legal life across ancient Germanic and Scandinavian societies. In this modern rendition, you could think about it as a RENAISSANCE faire, or a civil war REENACTMENT, only for icelandic viking culture.
The event was very well run. it took place at an old boy scout camp called Taber Creek. It was the perfect setting for the event: it was deep in the woods, heavily wooded with trails and a pond.
I really dug how people were very into the event, with elaborate outfits and weapons. Many camped for the weekend in their authentic tents, cooked over fires and swam in the lake late into the night.
I personally do not own any authentic clothing, leatherwork or weapons. I did my best to not be seen, snuck off to the sides with my camera and took about 300 pictures. Looking forward to next years event.
